Why air duct cleaning matters in New Jersey
Between humid summers, pollen-heavy springs, and dry forced-air winters, New Jersey homes put a lot of stress on their HVAC systems. Over the course of just a few years, ductwork accumulates a measurable layer of dust, pet dander, drywall residue from old renovations, and in some cases mold along the cooling coil.
All of that gets recirculated through your home every time the system cycles. For households with allergies, asthma, or young children, this is one of the most impactful indoor-air upgrades you can make.
What a thorough cleaning includes
A real air duct cleaning is not a vacuum-at-the-vent service. It's a top-to-bottom cleaning of every component the air touches:
- All supply runs and return runs, agitated and vacuumed
- The supply and return plenums
- The blower wheel and motor housing
- The evaporator coil (carefully, without damaging fins)
- All registers and grilles, removed and washed
- A new high-MERV filter installed before we leave
How often should a New Jersey home have its ducts cleaned?
Every 3–5 years is the right cadence for most homes. Bump that up to every 2–3 years if you have pets, allergies, or recently completed a renovation. After a new home purchase, always have the ducts cleaned before move-in — you don't know what they carry.
What to look for in a contractor
Avoid any company quoting under $200 — they're almost always running a bait-and-switch where the real price shows up on site. Ask whether they clean the coil and blower (most don't). Ask whether they use truck-mounted negative pressure or just a shop vac. And ask for before/after photos of every job.
